چکیده
Objectives: To assess the diagnostic effi cacy of fi ne needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in identifying cancer isolated thyroid nodules using nodule histology as gold standard. Materials and Methods: Between January 2021 September 2022, 145 individuals who were hospitalized to ENT department, Khyber Teaching Hospital Peshawar, Pakistan, with a single underwent surgery for histopathology whose was done included research. We looked at FNAC reports well results. Results: For diagnosing had sensitivity 81%, specifi city 73.56%, PPV 67.14% NPV 85.33%.Conclusion: The test is good screen solitary nodules.

Introduction: This study was conducted at the Department of ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery, Post Graduate Medical Institute Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. The duration of the study was one year from June 17, 2009 to June 16, 2010. The sample size was 82 patients with solitary thyroid nodule, fulfilling the inclusion criteria. After taking detailed history, thorough examination, rele...

Results: A suitable FNAC was obtained from 6.135 nodules (4.495 patients): 34.6% were less than 1 cm in diameter (small nodules, SN). A diagnosis of carcinoma was histologically confirmed in 284/349 suspicious lesions after FNAC. The size of carcinoma was not significantly associated with the occurrence of extracapsular growth (large nodules, LN): 10.5% in LN versus 4.9% in SN (non significant)...
متن کاملComparison of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology and Thyroid Scan in Solitary Thyroid Nodule
Objective. This was a comparative study between FNAC and thyroid scan used to diagnose the solitary thyroid nodule and histopathology was used as gold standard to compare the results of both modalities. We hypothesized that Fine needle aspiration cytology and thyroid scan diagnose solitary thyroid nodule (STN) as accurately as histopathology. Materials and Methods. This study comprised of 50 pa...
متن کاملFine Needle Aspiration Cytology versus Fine Needle Capillary Sampling in Cytological Diagnosis of Thyroid Lesions
Background and Objectives: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is an established out- patient procedure used in primary diagnosis of palpable thyroid lesions. A modified technique fine needle capillary sampling (FNCS) obviates the need of suction, is less painful, patient friendly and reported to overcome the problem of inadequate and bloody specimens. The aim of our study was to compare the...
متن کاملCorrelation of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology with Histopathology in the Diagnosis of Solitary Thyroid Nodule
Background. Fine needle aspiration cytology is considered the gold standard diagnostic test for the diagnosis of thyroid nodules. Fine needle aspiration cytology is a cost effective procedure that provides specific diagnosis rapidly with minimal complications. Based on the cytology findings, patients can be followed in cases of benign diagnosis and subjected to surgery in cases of malignant dia...
